49 decapitated and mutilated bodies were found by Mexican authorities near the highway in the desert town of San Juan about 100 miles west of Brownsville, Texas.
Although it’s possible that the dead bodies were U.S. bound migrants, authorities say it’s more likely that the incident represents the latest blow in the escalating war between Mexico’s top two drug cartels. The drug cartels have battled for strategic transport routes and territory and drug violence has killed more than 47,000 people in Mexico since President Felipe Calderón stepped up enforcement the past six years. – Associated Press.
